Vodafone and CityFibre announce UK’s second gigabit city

Aberdeen to become the next gigabit city as part of the gigabit speed full fibre broadband scheme.
Thanks to the initiative by Vodafone and CityFibre, 12 cities across the UK are set to receive gigabit speed full fibre broadband. With Milton Keynes announced as the first city to receive funding and Aberdeen the second, the remaining 10 cities are yet to be announced.
Aberdeen will get £40 million invested into full fibre infrastructure, with CityFibre having already laid a 90km fibre spine throughout the city. Plans are to micro-trench each street, so as to give access to both consumers and businesses, regardless of the demand.
Using fibre optic cables for every stage of the connection, Vodafone should be able to offer broadband speeds of 1 Gbps.

Work on delivering the city-wide fibre network in Aberdeen, will begin in July.
